Community Foundation Boulder County

A nonprofit organization

Why Community Foundation Boulder County?

This past year has brought significant challenges to the Boulder County community. Our Boulder County Nonprofit Survey Report, published in May of 2025, revealed some concerning trends, including the fact that 72% of participating nonprofits had 6-months or less in operating reserves. As federal funding opportunities are eliminated and policies continue to shift, nonprofits expect negative impacts on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, immigration and citizenship policies, gender and sexual health policies, and climate and energy policies. There is also an ongoing sense of uncertainty, making it difficult for local organizations to make plans to address increasing needs in an ever-changing environment.

There’s no question that our community is facing big challenges, but what drives your generosity isn’t just the need. It’s your belief in Boulder County and in the power of coming together to make a difference. That’s why your support matters now more than ever. With your help, we can keep building a community where everyone can thrive.

For more than 30 years, we have built relationships that keep the fabric of our community strong.

  • We work with donors and volunteers to make sure resources are deployed to where the community needs it most.
  • We partner with nonprofits and local leaders to support innovative, forward-thinking projects. We foster the next generation of leaders through programs like Leadership Fellows, 15 Forever, and Trends.
  • And in times of uncertainty, we are called on to serve as a community leader, working on the front lines and behind the scenes to form partnerships, generate ideas, and address our community’s needs collectively.

More organizations and community members are turning to us for support, and we are committed to showing up to listen and learn, to convene and collaborate, and to take leadership and action to secure Boulder County’s future.

A gift to our annual fund supports essential aspects of our operations and drives the delivery of core programs and services like...

  • Philanthropic Advising
    • We manage hundreds of funds and advise generous community donors to ensure their philanthropic efforts make the greatest impact. An annual fund gift supports our ability to manage and administer the distribution of $10 million in grants each year to a variety of nonprofit organizations.
  • Grantmaking
    • The foundation is a grantmaking organization. Through funds like our Community Trust, Equity Funds (including the BRAVO Fund, Open Door Fund, and Veterans Fund), and additional discretionary grant-making, the foundation provides grants of roughly half a million annually to support a variety of needs in our community, such as education, environment, health, and human services, Veterans, the LGBTQ+ community, the Latino community, and more.
  • Trends
    • Trends is an online resource providing up-to-date data and reports focusing on areas of housing, income and economics, education, health and wellness, arts and culture, civic engagement, and environment and sustainability in Boulder County.
  • Leadership Programs
    • We nurture and activate the leadership in our community through programs like 15 Forever, an innovative youth-led civic engagement, leadership, and grantmaking program, and Leadership Fellows, a joint leadership development and networking program of Community Foundation Boulder County and the Boulder Chamber.
  • Disaster Response
    • Boulder County is no stranger to disaster. In response to fires to floods, shootings to attacks, the foundation is often called on to be a community leader. Whether creating a philanthropic fund to support community needs or working behind the scenes to form partnerships and generate ideas, the foundation serves as a home for generosity and collective action in times of crisis.

An annual fund gift helps us respond to immediate needs, prepares us for future challenges, and allows us to provide personalized support to organizations and donors across Boulder County so we can all work together to build a community where everyone can thrive.

Thank you for your support!
